Welcome to our live updates of the US and Israel’s war with Iran.

Donald Trump has said he has “no choice” but to send a delegation for peace talks in Pakistan with officials from Tehran.

But the US president added that he was not minded to extend a ceasefire that is due to expire on Wednesday, US time, any further. He said the US “expects to be bombing” if talks fail.

In what appears to be a game of negotiation brinkmanship, Tehran has still not said if it will even attend the Pakistan talks because of the “lack of good faith” and “threat of war crimes” from the Americans.

Iranian officials have also said they are preparing for a resumption of hostilities with “new surprises”.

Meanwhile, Mr Trump has said that a ship seized by the US in the region had some “things” on it that were “not nice” and a “gift from China”.

“I was a little surprised … I thought I had an understanding with President Xi, but that’s all right, that’s the way war goes, right?”

It’s not clear what the “not nice … gift” was from China.
