John Schell

Selections based on a good track.

Race 1

1. Above The Law has been placed in all six of his starts, with five seconds and a third. The son of Harry Angel has had three starts back from a spell, when in the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. He comes into his first start for the Mitchell Beer and George Carpenter stable after a second at Warwick Farm when last produced. He should race on the speed from a good draw and take plenty of beating. 7. Solid went forward at Hawkesbury when resuming from a spell and battled on fairly to finish third behind Superata. He should be better for that run and is worth another chance. 3. Demmo Dermy was having his second race start when resuming from a spell with a second placing at Hawkesbury and since followed that up with a close-up fifth at the same track. He can be thereabouts again. 5. Mako tailed the field home in the same race Solid contested last time out but wasn’t far away at Wyong before that. He’s had a recent trial to be kept up to the mark.
How to play it: Above The Law to win.

Racing returns to Kembla Grange on Tuesday.

Race 2

3. Whoa Nellie has only had two starts and showed improvement at her second start when second on the Beaumont track at Newcastle before being spelled. She’s had two barrier trials in preparation for this first-up assignment for a win at Warwick Farm and a third at Wyong. Expect a bold showing fresh. 6. Populism has also had two starts and ran fourth on debut at Wyong before following a third in a Gosford trial with a fifth placing at the same track at her second start. She could give this a shake. 1. Hold My Drink ran well when finishing second at the Sapphire Coast when resuming from a spell, then backed it up with a fifth at the same track as favourite. 7. Satono Jasmine was down the track on debut on the Beaumont track and resumes here after two trials and can lift.
How to play it: Whoa Nellie to win.

Race 3

4. Tequisoda has a good record with a win and four placings from five starts and his only failure was at Randwick in December before being spelled. He’s had two trials to get ready for this resuming run and was close-up in the latest at Wyong. 2. Call Me Mojo resumed from a lengthy spell at Canberra on Good Friday and did the job well to score as favourite. Another forward showing is expected. 1. King Nic looks ready to peak after three runs back from a spell. 6. Lawless Lucy won well at Newcastle two weeks ago and has claims.
How to play it: Tequisoda to win.

Race 4

2. Ishikari won in good style at Orange two starts ago and then was taken to Randwick for a Highway and led throughout again to score strongly. She dictated and was never going to lose either of those events and can do the same here. 1. Audenzia is consistent and was placed at Kembla Grange last time out. 6. Spiritualistic is a last-start Nowra winner and can show up again. 5. Benamera comes here after a win in a four-horse field at Canberra.
How to play it: Ishikari to win.

Race 5

4. Chix has shown her share of ability with two wins from four starts. She won on debut on the Beaumont track at Newcastle in December before failing at Randwick. She since was fresh when scoring at Kembla Grange and followed that with a fifth at Newcastle. 7. Miss Capitale has two wins and two seconds from six starts and wasn’t beaten far when a last start sixth at Wyong. 9. Gladstone Grande failed to fire last time out but wasn’t too far away before that and can improve. 2. Laurel Hill is a last start placegetter that can be prominent.
How to play it: Chix to win.

Race 6

4. Zounaka resumes from a spell, and she has a good overall record with two wins at Kembla Grange and Wyong in addition to four second placings. Her form at the end of her latest campaign at the back end of last year was sound with four just behind the placings efforts in city-grade races. She’s been given two trials in preparation for this return and has performed well in each of them. She’s drawn ideally in gate two. 1. Chicama broke his maiden at Warwick Farm last October before failing to fire in two more city races before being spelled. He’s
also had two trials to be readied for his return to racing. 2. Divo has shown potential in his career with a win and three second placings, including two second in city grade races. He won a Gosford trial and then ran a close-up fifth in another at Wyong to be prepared for this. 5. Peleus ran well when fourth at Rosehill before breaking through with a strong last start win at Hawkesbury in
Provincial Maiden company.
How to play it: Zounaka each way.
