Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon became the first player this season to reach 50 goals, scoring in the opening period against the Vancouver Canucks.
MacKinnon found space in the slot and fired a wrist shot past goaltender Kevin Lankinen to hit the milestone. It marks the second time in his career he has scored at least 50 goals, following a 51-goal campaign in 2023 to 2024.
The goal was also his 121st point of the season, leaving him tied for second in the NHL scoring race with Nikita Kucherov. Connor McDavid continues to lead the league with 125 points.
MacKinnon now sits three goals ahead of Cole Caufield in the race for the scoring title.
Despite the personal milestone, Colorado suffered an 8-6 defeat, just their second loss in seven games. MacKinnon finished the night with one goal and seven shots on net.
Vancouver’s Brock Boeser led the way for the Canucks, recording three goals and one assist in a high-scoring contest.
The Avalanche remain top of the standings with a 49-14-10 record, but the result highlights defensive concerns as they approach the playoffs.
