A young woman and a baby have been killed in a crash on a Queensland highway, which has left another woman fighting for life.
Emergency crews were called to the scene of the tragedy on the Captain Cook Highway at Oak Beach, south of Port Douglas, shortly before 4pm on Friday.
Police say initial investigations suggest a Mitsubishi Triton utility struck a Mazda MX-5 before colliding with a MG3 hatchback.
The driver of the MG, a 25-year-old Mossman woman, and her infant passenger both died at the scene.
A 22-year-old woman also travelling in the vehicle was flown to Cairns Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the utility, a 62-year-old Port Douglas man, was taken to Cairns Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries to his chest and back.
A 54-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman travelling in the Mazda escaped physical injury.
Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information or dashcam footage to come forward.
