A woman has died after being struck by a ute while exchanging details with another motorist on the side of the highway just south of Brisbane.

The woman, aged in her 30s, had been involved in a minor collision in the northbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway at Loganholme about 3.40pm on Monday.

After exchanging details with the other driver involved, she was struck by a third vehicle while walking back to her car just before 4pm, amid heavy rain.

She suffered critical injuries and died at the site of the crash.

The driver of the third vehicle, a man in his 30s, stopped further along the highway at the Logan Motorway exit. He was speaking with police on Monday night.

Hours later, two other crashes occurred in the northbound lanes of the motorway and it was closed as a result.

Rain was falling for much of the afternoon, and visibility was poor.

Traffic was still backed out for more than 10 kilometres about three hours after the crash. The motorway reopened just after 8:30pm.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dashcam footage is urged to contact police,” police said.

“Police are urging all motorists to be mindful of their driving and take necessary precautions to ensure everyone reaches their destinations safely.”
