A house fire has claimed the life of a woman in Tasmania’s northwest, after emergency crews rushed to the scene in the early hours of Monday morning.
Firefighters were called to a unit on Gunn St in Devonport about 5am after neighbours raised the alarm with multiple triple-0 calls.
Tasmania Fire Service crews extinguished the blaze and tragically found a woman aged in her 60s, believed to be the resident, dead inside the unit.
A Tasmanian police spokesperson said investigations into the cause of the fire would continue throughout the day.
“A formal identification process will be conducted, and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” the spokesperson said.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the person involved.”
