It was thought the US and Iran were on the brink of a deal – right now it seems as if they could be on the brink of the war escalating with Tehran threatening to block another vital global waterway.
The US said it conducted “self-defence strikes” against Iran over the weekend. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later claimed it struck a base used by US forces in retaliation.
Now, Tehran is saying that it has frozen all communications with the US due to Israel’s further encroachment into Lebanon.
Tehran has said any peace deal in Iran is contingent on Israel ceasing its hostilities against its neighbouring nation. But Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seems determined to carve out more territory in Lebanon and has no ordered strikes to recommence on Hezbollah dominated suburbs of Beirut.
