A furious Donald Trump has uncorked a social media rant, running to nearly a thousand words, against a federal judge who’s stymied his attempt to rename a landmark in Washington D.C. after himself.

At issue is the Kennedy Centre, a performing arts institution named for the assassinated former president John F. Kennedy.

Upon taking power last year, Mr Trump purged the centre’s board and stacked it with members of his own family, supportive media figures and other figures in his orbit. The new board then voted to rename the organisation the “Trump Kennedy Centre”.

A judge has ruled that because the Kennedy Centre was created via an act of Congress, it can only be renamed by Congress. For that, he has drawn Mr Trump’s ire, big time.

Meanwhile, the US has warned it’s “more than capable” of resuming war with Iran, after the White House signalled Mr Trump was close to a decision on a potential deal.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth made the remarks in question while attending a defence summit in Singapore on Saturday. He also praised nations including South Korea, Japan, Australia and the Philippines for boosting their defence spending, while threatening consequences for nations that “free-ride”.
