Tehran has darkly threatened to sink US ships in the Persian Gulf as the blockade enters a fourth day.
An ex commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards military force has also said it would “great” if the US committee ground troops to Iran as the regime could snatch them as lucrative hostages.
But US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth has said the US is locked and loaded” to hit Iran’s power stations and critical “dual use” infrastructure should no peace deal be forthcoming.
“We’d rather not have to do it, but we’re ready to go at the command of our president and at the push of a button.”
Meanwhile, Israel has said that its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun marking a historic moment for the two nations.
There is increasing pressure for Israel to pause its bombardment on Lebanon which has become a key sticking point in getting a US deal with Iran over the line.
