Tesla’s long-awaited six-seat Model Y L has officially landed in Australia, and if first impressions are anything to go by, this could be one of the most-talked-about SUVs of the year.
Just days after, several models were spotted arriving in Melbourne on the back of transport trucks.
Tesla Australia confirmed Friday the larger electric SUV is now available to order, with deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026. .

On paper, the formula of the Model Y L feels to simple, the brand has taken a highly popular Model Y, stretched it, added another row of seats, thrown in a heap of luxury features and somehow kept the pricing surprisingly competitive.
Starting from $74,900 plus on-road costs, the new Model Y L enters the market at a price point that undercuts many luxury family SUVs while offering something few rivals do – a fully electric six-seat layout.
This isn’t just the standard model Y with two extra seats. Tesla said the Model Y L has been redesigned with increased proportions, offering drivers more space and comfort.
Inside, the SUV has a 2-2-2 seating configuration, with two individual seats in the second row rather than a traditional bench.
It’s the kind of set-up you’d expect to see in expensive luxury SUVs.
The captain chairs include retractable armrests designed to provide more space and easier access to the third row.

The third row includes two additional seats and cup holders, while both the second and third rows can be folded down from controls in the boot to create more than 2,500 litres of cargo space, along with a 116-litre front trunk.
All six seats feature new designs, with heated seating across all rows, while the front and second row seats also include ventilation.
Then there’s the cabin features, Tesla’s signature 16-inch central touchscreen, along with an 8-inch rear display for second row passengers
The Model Y L will be offered in premium all-wheel drive, producing 378kW of power and 590Nm of torque, enabling the SUV to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.0 seconds with a top speed of 201km/h, pretty impressive for a larger family SUV.
The Model Y L offers up to 681km of range (WLTP) and supports DC fast charging of up to 250kW.
The vehicle also introduced vehicle-to-load capability, allowing the battery to power external appliances up to 3.3kW. These features will certainly appeal to everyone from campers to tradies.
It can even charge another Tesla vehicle.
Tesla said the model also features adaptive suspension with continuous variable damping, offering different driving modes including Balanced and Rear comfort for improved ride quality.
The Model Y L has also been awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
The timing of the Model Y L feels perfect as Australians move towards bigger SUVs, and what it offers is a compelling proposition.
Customers can now place orders with deliveries expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
