American actor and writer George Takei is relying on the support of his husband, Brad Altman, after his recent health problems and foot surgery.
Takei, 89, famed for having essayed the role of Hikaru Sulu in the Star Trek franchise, has reportedly been using a wheelchair more often during his recovery.
Reports say the 72-year-old Altman has taken on the role of full-time caregiver as the actor deals with his health challenges.
A source close to the couple said Altman has been by Takei’s side through every step of the recovery process and helping with appointments and daily needs.
The insider added that the situation has brought the couple even closer together, saying Altman’s support is more an act of love and commitment rather than obligation.
“This isn’t a burden, it’s devotion,” Radar Online quoted the insider, who added that Altman is “there for everything”.
Takei and Altman have been together for decades and married in 2008 after same-sex marriage became legal in California.
