AFL fans were left furious after a jumper clash between the Saints and Lions “caused havoc” for both sets of players.

Brisbane comfortably saw off St Kilda at the Marvel Stadium on Saturday afternoon as they claimed an impressive 113-80 victory.

But the game was somewhat overshadowed by the kit clash between the sides.

Saints’ red, white and black stripes were frustratingly similar to the Lions’ maroon and blue strip.

It left viewers struggling to spot the difference between the sides — and it was reportedly also a challenge for the players.

Broadcaster Gerard Whateley addressed the issue during the game, saying: “It’s a jumper clash — and it’s causing havoc for the players themselves.”

The comment came after many supporters had already flagged the problem on social media.

AFL journalist Sam Edmund posted: “Another one for the jumper clash files?”

To which Charlie Lambert replied: “How does the league continually get this wrong?”

Tax Guy added: “It’s just such amateur nonsense. I am staggered that we haven’t figured out how to schedule proper clash jumpers at this point in a billion dollar pro league.”

HFC Always added: “How does this get approved? Staggering how often the AFL get the simple things wrong.”

And Chroniclesofnah said: “At the ground — it’s genuinely difficult to see who’s who at times.”

The jumper clash comes after a similar issue last year when fans struggled to differentiate between Collingwood and Carlton at the MCG.

The problem has plagued AFL fans for many years, and will continue to be a topic of much debate following Saturday’s game.

The Lions’ win is their first of the season after starting the campaign with back-to-back defeats at the hands of the Bulldogs and the Swans.

Meanwhile, Saints have now lost three of their opening four – failing to follow up their win over the Giants as they slip to 12th in the table.
