New Zealand Warriors halfback Luke Metcalf has signed with the St George Illawarra Dragons on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old had also been linked with a move to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, but has now been announced by the Dragons — who are winless in nine so far this season.

Speaking after his move was confirmed, Metcalf, who will join his new side at the end of the season, said: “I’m really excited to be joining the Dragons and grateful for the opportunity.

“It’s a proud club with a huge supporter base, and I’m looking forward to meeting the boys, getting to work and earning the respect of the players, staff and fans.

“I intend to give my all to the Warriors for the remainder of this season before taking the next step in my career. It will be an honour to pull on the Red V and do everything I can to help the club move forward.”

Metcalf’s contract will take him through to 2029.

According to Code Sports, the deal is worth around $900,000 per season.

The same report claims Metcalf flew to Sydney to hold talks with both the Dragons and Bulldogs, with the latter choosing not to “formally pursue” the player.

Metcalf, who has played 43 times since debuting in the NRL in 2021, is the latest name added to the Dragons’ team for 2027 after deals were already secured for Scott Drinkwater, Keaon Koloamatangi and Phillip Sami.

They are also understood to be looking into a move for Roosters hooker Connor Watson ahead of his 2028 switch to the PNG Chiefs.

Meanwhile, it is understood the Warriors were willing to let Metcalf leave after they tied down Tanah Boyd to a new contract.

Metcalf has also struggled with a hamstring problem this season which has only allowed him to play twice.

It comes after he ruptured his ACL during Round 17 of the 2025 season.

He only returned in March, before suffering his latest setback.
