NRL fans are divided after a hugely controversial try in South Sydney Rabbitohs’ thrilling clash with Newcastle Knights.

With the Rabbitohs trailing 28-10 early in the second half, a beautiful Alex Johnston kick was plucked out of the air by Cody Walker and he forced his way over to reduced the deficit.

However, it went to The Bunker because Matthew Dufty, who was offside, appeared to touch the ball when he went for the catch alongside teammate Walker.

Walker seemed to already have it under control, but the replays also showed Dufty did get a hand on the ball.

Ultimately, the try was awarded — much to the fury of some fans on social media.

Lachland Jeffery said: “I’ve seen some howlers over the years, but that Cody Walker try is one of the best.”

Dylan added: “Cody Walker try was some bs.”

But others felt the decision was correct, with Jim Hanna saying: “Try everyday. Cody Walker controlled the ball the whole time.”

And V reacted: “Dunno what they’re going on about. That’s a try any day of the week.”

Unfortunately for Walker and the Rabbitohs, it did not prove decisive.

Despite roaring back to lead 38-36 with seven minutes remaining, the Knights responded through a Trey Mooney try to claim a 42-38 victory.

And Walker lost his call in the final moments of the game as he pushed the Knights’ Dylan Brown, with players from both sides becoming enraged.

In response to his fiery outburst, Nathan Faint said: “As good as a player Cody Walker is you would think he would have grown up by now!”

While Al Dente added: “For all his experience, Cody Walker is such a hot headed little kid sometimes.”

The result ends a run of three straight defeats for the Knights and sees them move up to 10th place.

Meanwhile, it is a setback for the Rabbitohs — who came into the game having won four of their last five.

Next up for South Sydney is a home game against the Sharks, while the Knights go to the winless Dragons.
