Stop the search, the try of the 2026 NRL season has been scored by Brian To’o.

After conceding the first try inside the first 10 minutes, the Panthers turned up the heat on the Roosters on Friday evening, blowing them off the park in a 40-4 romp at Allianz Stadium.

But while the performance of the likes of Nathan Cleary and four try hero Tom Jenkins are sure to get plenty of attention, To’o still stole the show.

In the 19th minute, Nathan Cleary went down the short side but the Tri Colours were awake to it.

Paul Alamoti’s pass then to winger To’o went behind him, which he picked up off his shoelaces before doing the unthinkable.

As Roosters halfback Sam Walker rushed up to shut him down, the 27-year-old grubbered between his legs before picking it up and putting in another grubber with the outside of his foot curling it around James Tedesco and back into his arms before putting the ball down to score a try for the ages.

You can watch the unbelievable try in the player above.

“That is individual brilliance. You see something like that once a year. That is ridiculous,” Michael Ennis said on Fox League.
“That’s a try for the ages that one,” Kevin Walters added.

And the NRL world was left stunned.

“The double grubber try from Brian To’o was UNREAL,” Common Sports wrote on Instagram.

“Brian To’o take a bow! You won’t see a better individual technical try than that this season,” Liam Smith said.

“You don’t double dip, but Brian To’o can double grubber. That’s ridiculous,” NewsWire’s Martin Gabor added.

“That might be the best thing I’ve seen To’o do, and he’s done some amazing things on a footy field,” Josh Crip commented.

Panthers masterclass puts NRL on notice

The Panthers are 3-0 and have conceded just 10 points so far this season, with their attack unstoppable at times as Brian To’o scored the try of 2026 as fellow winger Tom Jenkins continued his dream start with four tries including a long-range cracker in the second half.

It’s remarkable to think that this is the same side that sat at the foot of the table after 12 rounds last year, with the team from the foot of the mountains ready to scale the summit again.

Nathan Cleary’s ball playing somehow continues to evolve, while Paul Alamoti looked like the fastest man in the world at one stage as he broke through to find his halfback who passed to Dylan Edwards to score.

The Roosters are a terrific team who will be there when the whips are cracking in September, but if they couldn’t get close to Penrith, then what hope do the rest of the league have against an immovable object that is also an unstoppable force?
