Robert Downey Jr. discusses fate of a possible third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ film

Robert Downey Jr. has said the future of another Sherlock Holmes movie majorly depends on his wife, Susan Downey.

The 61-year-old actor spilled the details during the Lincoln Center Spring Gala on May 18 upon being asked whether fans could expect a third Sherlock Holmes film after the success of the 2009 original and its 2011 sequel.

The actor responded by pointing towards his wife since 21 years, Susan Downey, who produced the films, and said, “People are talking about it, but she’s the producer.”

When asked again about returning to the role of the famous detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle, Downey Jr. joked that his wife would “have the last word.”

The Emmy-winning producer, Susan Downey, then playfully replied, “It’s the greatest mystery.”

The Guy Richie-directed original films saw major success at the box office and reignited interest in the classic detective character for new audiences.

A third film has been discussed for years. Warner Bros. first confirmed development plans in 2016 and later announced a planned 2021 release date, but the project was eventually delayed and disappeared from the studio’s release schedule.
