Two men have been charged after a teenage soccer match in Sydney’s southwest descended into chaos – with one teenager allegedly bitten during the massive brawl.
What was meant to be a standard under-17s boys’ soccer match between Revesby Rovers FC and Greenacre Eagles FC turned violent about 3.30pm on Saturday at Amour Park on Iluka St, Revesby.
It is alleged a on-field clash between teenage players ignited a massive pitch invasion, with more than 30 spectators and players swarming the field in a sprawling melee.
Wild video footage allegedly captured the chaos as the brawl surged across the ground, at one point even swallowing up an unsuspecting bystander walking a dog near the sidelines.
In the aftermath of the violence, five police officers could be seen interviewing club officials and witnesses while a subsequent men’s match played on in the background.
Emergency services arrived to find multiple people injured.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated a 47-year-old man for minor head injuries at the scene before transporting him to Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital.
An 18-year-old had to be taken to Liverpool Hospital to receive treatment for injuries that included a distinct bite mark on his back.
Following an investigation by Bankstown Police Area Command, a 47-year-old Greenacre man was arrested on Sunday.
He has been charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on June 25.
Later that same day, police tracked down an 18-year-old man, taking him to Bankstown Police Station.
He faces severe charges, including affray and being armed with intent to commit an indictable offence.
After initially being refused police bail, the teenager faced Bankstown Local Court on Monday, where he was also handed conditional bail to reappear on June 25.
Police confirmed inquiries into the incident are continuing.
