Real Madrid are in the midst of a civil war with fans demanding star player Kylian Mbappe is sold.

A petition calling on the club to get rid of the striker has reached four million signatures in a matter of hours.

And it is not just the fans who are unhappy with the Frenchman – several teammates and coaches are unhappy with his conduct after he took a trip to Sardinia with his new girlfriend, actress Ester Exposito.

Fans are furious with the timing of the trip with rivals Barcelona on the verge of securing the LaLiga title, while Real have also been dumped out of the Champions League.

Real boss Alvaro Arbeloa defended Mbappe and the team hit out at the criticism.

“Part of the criticisms are based on an overinterpretation of elements related to a recovery period strictly supervised by the club,” a statement read.

“This is not corresponding to the reality of the commitment and the work that Kylian does daily for the good of the team.”

Yet that has only added to the fury of supporters, who are calling for the $1million-a-week star to be sold.

The description of the petition reads: “Madridistas, make your voice heard.

“If you believe change is needed, don’t stay silent — sign this petition and stand for what you think is best for the club’s future.”

Meanwhile Mbappe has also clashed with members of staff, with the 27-year-old reported to have “spoken angrily and used insulting terms” towards the member of staff, who simply called him offside in training.

But he has escaped disciplinary action, with Arbeloa instead defending his behaviour and his recent absence.

“Mbappe in Italy with his girlfriend? He can do what he wants in his free time, like any other player,” said the Real Madrid boss.

“But no player is bigger than the club. I won’t get involved. All the injured players are monitored and the medical staff plan everything”

Unfortunately for Real Madrid this could just be the start, as they will hand Barcelona the title if they lose to them on Monday morning [AEST].
