Bodycam footage has captured the shocking moment police discovered a teen, 14, was carrying a machete concealed in his clothing at a Queensland train station has been revealed.
Officers were conducting wanding patrols at Helensvale train station on the Gold Coast when they allegedly found the teen armed with a machete about 9pm on Wednesday.
Police allege the large knife was concealed in the boy’s waistband.
Footage from the incident shows officer handcuff the boy while they allegedly removed a large weapon from the boys pants.
“Have you heard about Jack’s Law?” an officer asks the boy.
“And you still decide to carry a machete, far out man.”
The machete was seized and a 14-year-old Parkwood boy will now be dealt with under provision of the Youth Justice Act.
The officers were conducing the operation under Jack’s Law, which is legislation that allows police to scan people in public places to find dangerous weapons without needing a warrant or reasonable suspicion.
Since the law was introduced in July last year Gold Coast police have scanned more than 30,650 people and seized 225 weapons.
The law was introduced after 17-year-old Jack was killed during a night out with friends in Surfers Paradise in 2019.
“By scanning for, detecting, and removing dangerous weapons from public places, the Queensland Police aims to reduce the harm these weapons cause in the community while also educating the public on the risks of unlawfully carrying a weapon,” a spokesman said.
