A soccer goalkeeper has died after collapsing during a game in Sydney’s Hills District.
The 32-year-old fell to the ground mid-way through his match at the View Street grounds, the home of the West Pennant Hills Redbacks, in Sydney’s northwest, around 2.30pm on Saturday.
The Daily Telegraph reports Superintendent Commander of Traffic and Highway Patrol operations Anthony Boyd and a teammate, understood to be a doctor, had both just finished a game on another field and rushed to help the keeper who was laying motionless on the edge of the penalty area.
The pair then performed CPR for more than half an hour as they desperately tried to revive him.
Paramedics arrived and continued the attempts to bring him back to life, but he could not be revived and he was pronounced dead.
Teammates, children, and families there to support their loved ones could do nothing but watch on in horror.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
