Phil Collins reveals fate of career amid dire health issues

Phil Collins has provided a health update, confessing he has no intention of performing again.

The former Genesis front man, now 74 years old, has stayed away from the public eye since multiple health issues forced him to abandon his music career.

He recently had five knee operations and also suffered kidney complications.

During Friday’s episode of BBC Breakfast, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt returned to our TV screens as they presented the day’s top stories from the UK and beyond.

Early in the programme, the presenting pair announced that the hitmaker sat down with one of their colleagues to provide a health update and future plans, four years after stepping back from performing, reports the Mirror.

The singer, who has shifted more than 100 million records globally, appeared on the show in a pre-recorded interview with culture reporter Charlotte Gallagher.

Chatting with Charlotte, he discussed his knee troubles but said he is “healthier than he has been in a while.”

Phil continued, “The last 18 months have been fine, but before that, not so good. Everything health-wise caught up to me at the same time. Whatever could go wrong did go wrong, but everything is fine now.”

“I had a problem with my knee, which I had for a while, but I played through it – toured through it. But eventually, I had to have a knee operation, and I had to have five – five times because it kept either getting infected or it broke, so I was inactive for a long time,” the star said as he talked of his health and how it affected him.
