The Broncos registered a stunning 21-20 win over the Tigers on Saturday night but it has come at a serious cost, with Payne Haas hobbling off with a knee injury.

Haas’ knee was twisted in a tacklefrom Royce Hunt on the half-hour mark, and the hulking prop immediately grimaced in pain and reached for his right knee.

The 26-year-old tried to run it off but was unsuccessful, coming from the field moments later with Broncos medical staff ruling him out quickly.

Haas reported serious right knee pain and will go for scans on Sunday.

Brisbane were already missing 10 players from their top 30 squad and the latest Haas injury just adds to the mounting list of unavailable players.

The Broncos were missing Ben Hunt (knee), Reece Walsh (jaw) and Pat Carrigan (suspended) for the Tigers clash but that didn’t stop them pulling off a great win in front of a packed Campbelltown crowd.

Kotoni Staggs was the hero for the Broncos, as Wests Tigers youngster Hamasi Makasini had a night to forget.

“That is an impressive game of rugby league, and the champs are alive and kicking in the seventh round of the season,” said Fox League’s Andrew Voss.

“It was a huge win against a side that was on fire – without Carrigan, without Walsh and without Haas,” added Greg Alexander.
