Even after breaking a near three-decade hoodoo in Melbourne, Souths coach Wayne Bennett wasn’t in much of a mood to talk post-game.

In an awkward press conference at times, Bennett was curt with the majority of his answers after South Sydney’s impressive 48-6 win.
To open the presser up, Fox League’s Lara Pitt asked Bennett what he made of the performance.
“Really good,” Bennett responded.
When Pitt asked what the mindset among the playing group was in trying to break the Melbourne drought, Bennett was abrupt again.
“You better ask Cam (Murray) that,” he said.
Latrell Mitchell won the player of the match medal after another sensational performance but back rower Tallis Duncan mounted a strong case with a hat-trick.
A reporter asked the Souths coach whether Duncan would handle a potential State of Origin call up and whether he’s made for the Origin arena.
“I’m a Queenslander, mate, I’ve got no opinion on New South Wales … You want to write that you go for your life, I’m happy for you,” Bennett responded.
Souths have now scored at least 32 points in their past four games. They’ll likely end the round third in the comp for points scored.
Given she didn’t get the answers she wanted from Bennett, Pitt asked Murray about the Bunnies’ flourishing attack.
“Cam, this team looks like they’re playing kind of footy that they were back in 2021 when the guy next to you (Bennett) was here (in his first stint). He doesn’t want to talk about it, so can you talk to us about the kind of attacking footy that they’re putting on right now and how confident you are that this team can do well again this year,” Pitt asked.
“I guess we’re building nicely. I don’t really want to pat ourselves on the back too much,” Murray responded.
“It’s still early in the season and so we’ve probably strung together two good, consistent games, but it’s a long season and you can’t be singing your own praises too early.
“It’s too hard a game to fall asleep and not recognise that every time you turn up in this jersey, you have to pay the price and so we’re building nicely I’ll say that.”
The Rabbitohs’ next assignment will come against Newcastle next Sunday afternoon.
