NASCAR legend Kyle Busch “coughed up blood” the day before he passed away, according to the 911 call obtained by The California Post.
The two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion died suddenly on Thursday at the age of 41.
In the audio of the call, a man can be heard asking for an ambulance to come to the General Motors Charlotte Technical Center in Concord.
American Busch, who was lying on the bathroom floor, had suffered a yet unspecified medical emergency.
On the call, the man told the operator: “I’ve got an individual that’s shortness of breath, very hot, thinks he’s going to pass out and is producing a little bit of blood — coughing up some blood.
“He is awake. He’s awake. He’s on the bathroom floor right now.”
The individual then provides the emergency services with the fastest route to their location, before Busch was taken to a nearby hospital.
He later passed away from a “severe illness,” with NASCAR releasing a statement confirming his death.
It read: “On behalf of the Busch family, everyone at Richard Childress Racing and all of NASCAR, we are devastated to announce the sudden and tragic passing of Kyle Busch.
“Our entire NASCAR family is heartbroken by the loss of Kyle Busch. A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare talent, one who comes along once in a generation.
“He was fierce, he was passionate, he was immensely skilled and he cared deeply about the sport and fans.”
Buch’s death comes just six days after the beloved driver claimed his record fifth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series trophy and 13th overall at the famous concrete one-miler Dover track last Saturday (AEST).
Busch will be remembered as one of NASCAR’s greats.
His career at the top level spanned more than two decades, amassing 63 wins in the NASCAR Cup Series and was a two-time champion in 2015 and 2019.
Busch was 24th in the Cup Series standings, with two top 10 finishes from 12 races in the 2026 season.
