Melbourne has appointed Dan Taylor as the replacement for sacked Demons chief executive Paul Guerra.

The Demons axed Guerra on Tuesday after just seven months in the job.

Former Carlton and Geelong chief executive Brian Cook was subsequently named as Melbourne’s interim chief executive.

Cook will remain in the job reportedly for a few months before Taylor, a Demons board member who is executive director of streaming television service Stan, takes over in a permanent capacity.

“I am honoured to be appointed as the CEO of the Melbourne Football Club,” Taylor said.

“The club has a proud history and clear ambition, and I look forward to working with the board, executive team, staff and players to ensure its ongoing success.”

“This is a special opportunity. I can’t wait to get started.”

Melbourne president Steven Smith said the Demons board was “thrilled” to have someone of Taylor’s “expertise” to step into the chief executive role.

“Dan has built his career making complex businesses work in competitive environments, and he brings to us the strategic and commercial thinking we need,” Smith said.

“His leadership experience and understanding of what it takes to grow a high-performance organisation will be a great asset for the club.”

Guerra is set to pursue legal action against the Demons following his sacking.

“It’s been a challenging day. I’m really puzzled by the board’s decision,” Guerra told Channel 7.

“I’m really proud of the team we’ve put together and I’m really proud of the role that I’ve played in the team’s success.”
