Mark Scheifele stars as Canada beats Norway in OT at world hockey championship

Mark Scheifele scored a hat trick, including the overtime winner, as Canada edged Norway 6-5 on Thursday at the world hockey championship.

Scheifele sealed the win in overtime after combining with Evan Bouchard and Macklin Celebrini on a three-way passing play.

“It felt good (to score). I felt a little snake-bitten in the last few games, but we have such a great team. It was such a resilient effort by everyone, and it was awesome to get the winner,” Scheifele said after the game.

“Today’s win certainly was not how we drew things up, but give credit to Norway because they played a hard game and got pucks to our net.”

Norway stunned Canada by taking a 2-0 lead early before Scheifele scored twice to level the game after the opening period.

The Norwegians regained a 5-4 lead midway through the third period through goals from Noah Steen and Tinus Luc Koblar.

Canada forced overtime after Ryan O’Reilly scored with an extra attacker on the ice.

“Nothing surprises you at this tournament. Give Norway credit because they came out hard and had us in a hole right away”, O’Reilly said.
