A man was allegedly driving with a refused license application when he struck a 15-year-old boy riding an e-bike in Sydney’s north on Monday afternoon.

Police were called to an intersection in North Curl Curl just after 4.30pm on Monday afternoon after a crash was reported, and officers were told on arrival that a 15-year-old boy had been hit by a car, causing (him) to be thrown from the e-bike.

Man arrested after allegedly hitting teen with car

Witnesses told responding officers that a group of boys had been riding their e-bikes when a man driving a Volkswagen SUV had “made an offensive hand gesture” towards the group, before driving away.

The teenagers allegedly followed the car before one of them – the 15 year old boy – began arguing with the driver.

“During the argument, the alleged driver – a 38-year-old man – threw a water bottle at the teen before driving away. The 15-year-old then threw the same water bottle back at the car, however, it did not make impact,” police said.

After the collision took place, two off-duty police officers standing nearby attempted to stop the driver, but he allegedly fled the scene.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the boy for “serious leg injuries” before he was rushed to Randwick Children’s hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The man 38-year-old man was arrested at Dee Why Police Station at 5.30pm and was charged with driving furiously in a motor vehicle and causing bodily harm, negligent driving, and driving while his license application was refused.

He was granted bail, and will appear in Manly Local Court on May 20.
