A man charged with attempted murder has appeared in court after he allegedly stabbed another man at a bowling club in Newcastle.
Police were called to the Merewether Bowling Club about 7.40pm on Sunday.
Yury Skrynnik, 53, allegedly stabbed a man known to him several times near the club’s entrance, police say.
The injured man, aged 69, was treated at the scene before paramedics arrived.
He was taken to the John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition, with stab wounds to his chest and back.
Mr Skrynnik was later arrested at a home in Stockton about 1.40am on Monday.
He was charged with attempt murder (DV) and contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (domestic).
His matter was briefly mentioned before a bail court on Monday when no application was made for bail, and it was formally refused.
He will next appear before Newcastle Local Court on May 20.
