The AFL has deleted a video of players coming clean on how often they wash their bed sheets.

The video, which featured a host of stars, including Christian Petracca and Taylor Walker, was taken down from the league’s Instagram profile following a backlash from followers in the comments section.

The video posted on Tuesday was branded “deeply tone deaf” after six of the 12 footballers admitted they do not wash their sheets.

Some of the players grinned sheepishly when admitting their wife, girlfriend or mum does the job for them.

The light-hearted video clearly hit a sore spot for some followers with some calling for the clip to be taken down.

As first reported by The Advertiser, one Instagram user commented: “I know this was meant to be funny, but the fact that so many of these ‘grown up’ men only change their sheets because their wives or girlfriends do it for them, or still have their mums changing their beds just shows how the mental load for a household is carried by women”.

Another viewer wrote: “This is terrible, goes to show that boys aren’t socialised to do household chores from a young age whereas girls are and understand what is needed”.

Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw was admirably honest with his response in the video.

“In my first year away from home, I didn’t realise you were supposed to change them,” he said.

“They were probably on for a year.”

Shaking his head, Brayshaw went on to say: “I know. It’s not good.”

Suns star Petracca said changing the sheets is part of their Sunday routine.

“We have a thing called “Reset Sundays”. My wife would be happy with that,” he said.

“So we do it every Sunday.”

Giants captain Toby Greene said: “My wife does it a couple times a week. She’s bloody good at it”.

A laughing Chad Warner said: “I used to change them about once a year, but I live with my girlfriend now so she does it every couple of weeks”.

The deleted clip got the attention of breakfast TV king Karl Stefanovic on Thursday.

Channel 9’s Mia Glover said fans had been given a “major ick”.

News presenter Jayne Azzopardi said it was “gross”.

Stefanovic said he personally does “some times” change the sheets.

When co-host Sarah Abo said she generally changes the sheets in her house, Stefanovic responded: “Oh, so it’s a sexist thing”.

Sports presenter Danika Mason said she and partner Liam Knight share the sheet-changing duties, but admitted the former Bulldogs star has the job of stretching the sheets diagonally from one corner.

The AFL has been contacted for comment.
