Indiana Fever star Aliyah Boston misses first WNBA game with leg injury

Aliyah Boston missed the first WNBA game of her career on Sunday after the Indiana Fever ruled the star centre out with a lower leg injury ahead of their matchup against the Seattle Storm.

Fever head coach Stephanie White described Boston’s condition as “day-to-day” but declined to confirm whether the issue was connected to the injury that previously ended her season in the Unrivaled league and kept her out of the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament in March.

“It’s day-to-day. So today she’s out, and we’ll evaluate again tomorrow,” White said.

“It’s still early, and so there’s no reason to really push anything. And we want to make sure that we are utilizing an abundance of caution,” she added.

Boston, the number one overall pick in the 2023 WNBA Draft, had appeared in 127 consecutive regular-season games before Sunday.

Caitlin Clark acknowledged Boston’s absence would be difficult for the team.

“Obviously, Aliyah provides a lot to this team, so everybody’s got to step up. Obviously, those are big shoes to fill,” Clark said.

Boston is averaging 12 points, five rebounds and two assists this season.
