Zohran Mamdani launches $50 World Cup ticket lottery in NYC: How to enter and win

Zohran Mamdani, New York City’s mayor, has announced a relief plan for NYC residents regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Thursday.

As per announcement, the tickets for the World Cup will be available to residents of the five boroughs at $50 per ticket.

As a part of this program, the 1000 tickets will be included for the match held at MetLife Stadium. Each $5o ticket includes round-trip bus transportation to and from the stadium.

Under this offer the residents can only enjoy seven matches, including 5 group stage games, one Round of 32 game and one Round of 16 game, excluding the final.

Talking about the distribution of tickets, they will be given to the residents randomly for every game.

This is for the time a 2026 host city is going to provide special ticket access to its residents. The affordability lies at the heart of New York City’s campaign who is determined to deliver cost-effective World Cup experience in the midst of a high pricing model for tickets.

Mamdani said at a campaign stop in September, “There’s just no chance for so many who love this game so much to actually be able to go and see this.”

“This also has a real impact on the potential for the atmosphere of the World Cup and just how many fans will actually be there. Because so often the people who get the tickets quickest are not the ones who are actually the most eager to be there. They’re the ones who are the most excited at the prospect of a profit.”

The recent initiative is a collaboration between the mayor’s office and the NY/NJ World Cup host committee.

Lottery details

The registration will open on May 25 at 10 am ET and the last date to register will be May 30 at 5pm ET. A maximum of 50,000 entries are allowed daily. The winners can buy a maximum of two tickets. The tickets will be non-transferable and issued on the day of the game.

Games eligibility

  • Five group games: Brazil v Morocco on June 13, France v Senegal on June 16, Norway v Senegal on June 22, Ecuador v Germany on June 25 and Panama v England on June 27
  • Round of 32 game on June 30
  • Round of 16 game on July 5
