The fight to stop attacks on Melbourne’s nightspots continues, with police arresting two men and searching seven properties today.
At least 35 bars, nightclubs and adult entertainment premises in the city have been targeted by arson attacks, shootings and kidnapping attempts in the past four months. The identity and motivations of the perpetrators remain largely a mystery.
In addition to charging the men with various offences, police seized a range of items from the properties including illicit tobacco, cash, steroids, a tomahawk, mobile phones and other electronic devices.
“Over 65 people have been arrested and charged with about 370 offences in relation to these incidents,” police said in a statement.
“Investigators are continuing to look at all possible motivations behind the offending, including who is involved and why.”
Last month, this masthead revealed that some venue owners had begun receiving an extortion demand for $10,000 a month to avoid being targeted.
