A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car while crossing four lanes with his dog in South Perth.

Police allege a silver Toyota Corolla was driving in a southerly direction on Rockingham Rd in Hamilton Hill about 9.15pm Sunday when the car tried to cross four lanes, hitting a pedestrian.

Locals in the area said the pedestrian was walking his dog and attempted to sprint across the four lanes when he was killed.

Harvey, who witnessed the incident, said the man “crossed the road at the wrong moment”.

“I actually saw the person who was running across the road flying up into the air,” he said per 9News.

“That was a traumatising image, you know. It sticks in your brain.”

Others who were in the vicinity, including an off-duty nurse, immediately ran to the man’s assistance.

The 31-year-old man was transported to Fiona Stanley Hospital where he later died.

The 32-year-old driver is assisting police with their investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
