Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, a close ally of Donald Trump, is in critical condition in hospital, The New York Times reports.
Mr Giuliani, 81, a former prosecutor, was the mayor who led New York through the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.
Almost 20 years later, he led Mr Trump’s legal team as the President launched a flurry of unsuccessful court cases, seeking to overturn his election defeat to Joe Biden.
A spokesman for Mr Giuliani, Ted Goodman, told The Times he “remains in critical but stable condition” at a Florida hospital, but did not reveal the cause of the health episode.
“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” said Mr Goodman.
Mr Trump acknowledged Mr Giuliani had been hopsitalised in a post on Truth Social.
“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,” Mr Trump wrote.
Democrat Eric Adams, who served as New York City mayor until 2025, wished Mr Giuliani a speedy recovery.
“We may not always agree politically — but this moment rises above politics. On behalf of Eric Adams, we are wishing strength, good health, and a full recovery to Rudy Giuliani — a man who devoted his life to public service,” Mr Adams’ spokesperson Todd Shapiro said in a statement.
“From his years as a federal prosecutor to leading New York City through its darkest day on 9/11, he stood with this city when it needed him most.
“Public service at that level demands sacrifice, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to the people you serve. Whatever differences may exist, those contributions deserve respect.
“We are keeping him and his family in our thoughts.”
