Eddie Nketia has been slammed by fans days after he broke the Australia all-conditions 100m record.

The sprinter made it back-to-back victories at the Big Ten Championships by winning the 200m.

And he did so in a very respectable 20.03seconds – days after winning the 100m in a blistering 9.74.

However not everyone has been left impressed by the Australian, with some claiming he ran slowly given the conditions.

Like the 100m, Nketia had the benefit of a tailwind of 7.5 per second.

Many fans took note of the assistance and questioned Nketia as a result.

“+7.5 and you can’t even run sub-20. I’d retire right away,” wrote one sceptic.

Another added: “These wind added times are nuts.”

A third wrote: “7.5 on the wind is beyond crazy.”

And another commented: “7.5 wind is insane.”

One more remarked: “And he still would’ve lost the UIL Texas State Track Championships.”

While there are critics from further afield, Aussies are beginning to get excited about their sprint prospects with Nketiah now rivalling Gout Gout and Lachie Kennedy, who holds the 100m national record.

Kennedy set the record only last year but it is already being chased down, and Nketia has it in his sights.

“It’s crazy man, to run 9.74 even with the wind. It shows It shows I’m getting better and can see the progress and the season isn’t over yet,” Nketia said after his race.

“I’m really hoping this season on the back of that to get a legal PB and show I can compete.

“The all-conditions record is nice, but I really want that actual record.

“I think the future is bright. When I get out of college I’m looking forward to competing everywhere, including hopefully Europe this year.”
