Novak Djokovic has praised Lorenzo Musetti, the 10-time champion admitting he was thoroughly outplayed and on his way out of the tournament.

Musetti was up two sets to love over Djokovic when he was struck down by injury, he took a medical time out and then tried to play on but it didn’t take long for him to retire from the match as a stunned crowd looked on.

It’s the second time this tournament that Djokovic has progressed due to injury with his fourth-round opponent Jakub Mensik withdrawing before their match due to injury.

“I don’t know what to say except that I feel sorry for him,” Djokovic said post match on Nine.

“He was the far better player, and I was on my way home tonight.

“He should have been the winner today, I have no doubt.”
