A high-end jewellery and handbag store in one of Sydney’s most exclusive suburbs has been ransacked after a vehicle ploughed through the storefront early on Thursday morning.

Police were called to Luxury Consignment on Transvaal Ave shortly after 4.40am on Thursday morning after receiving reports that a Volkswagen had reversed into the building.

The store had been “broken into and a number of people had smashed cabinets and stolen a quantity of jewellery”.

“A crime scene was established and a Volkswagen – reportedly stolen from Bondi on Tuesday – used to smash into the front of the shop has been seized for forensic examination,” a police spokeswoman said.

“A number of people are believed to have fled in a second vehicle – an Audi also stolen from Bondi on Tuesday.”

Police inquiries are ongoing.
