Australian women’s coach Shelley Nitschke has inked a three-year contract extension, taking her tenure until at least the end of 2029.

Nitschke was approaching the end of her initial four-year deal that she signed upon appointment in 2022.

It’s a huge injection of stability to the Aussies ahead of next month’s Twenty20 World Cup in England and Wales.

Under Nitschke, Australia has maintained its position as the No.1 ranked team in the world despite undergoing significant transition in team personnel.

Nitschke said there was “enormous motivation” to secure further accolades during a jam-packed upcoming schedule.

“It’s a privilege to continue coaching this team and working with such an outstanding group of players and staff,” she said.

“We’ve achieved a great deal together, but there’s also enormous motivation around what this group can accomplish in the years ahead.”

Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg lauded Nitschke for her impact at the helm.

“I am delighted Shelley will remain at the helm of the Australian team for the next three years,” he said.

“Shelley has overseen some outstanding achievements and helped ensure the team’s No.1 world ranking has been maintained throughout her time as coach.

“She is also successfully guiding a period of transition with some brilliant young players joining the team from the large pool of women and girls now participating in our game.“
