Australia’s motorcycle industry is bracing for a major shake-up as another Chinese brand prepares to challenge the dominance of the major Japanese and European brands.

Manufacturer ZXMOTO has confirmed it will launch locally through Melbourne-based Urban Moto Imports, with the first models expected to arrive in spring 2026.

Insane new bike hits Australia

The move comes as Chinese brands continue to gain momentum in Australia by offering high-tech motorcycles with sharp pricing and strong performance credentials.

And the big players like Honda, KTM, Yamaha and Kawasaki are watching closely.

ZXMOTO made waves globally after announcing an ambitious target to place on the podium in its debut season in the FIM World Supersport Championship.

In what can only be described as a stunning achievement, the Chinese newcomers have since claimed three race victories – with more potential on the table as the season continues.

The company now has ambitions to compete in the Dakar Rally and the Shanghai round of MXGP later this year.

Founded by Zhang Xue and headquartered in Chongqing, China, the brand is targeting both road riders and off-road enthusiasts with its first Australian line-up.

Potential models for Australia could include the 820RR triple-cylinder sports bike and the 500RR four-cylinder machine. Off-road offerings could include the MX250 and MX450 motocross bikes, alongside the ZX300 two-stroke enduro motorcycle.

Urban Moto Imports CEO Joseph Elasmar said the partnership followed a visit to the ZXMOTO factory and an in-person meeting with company founder Xue.

“ZXMOTO is a brand with serious momentum, a clear focus on performance and passion, and a product range that we believe will genuinely surprise people,” he said.

“Seeing the ZXMOTO operation first-hand gave us real confidence in the brand. The factory, facilities and team all point to a manufacturer with serious capability and a strong future ahead.”

Exact Australian pricing and model availability for ZXMOTO are still to be confirmed, but the brand’s arrival is set to intensify competition in Australia’s fast-changing motorcycle market.

Urban Moto Imports already distributes brands including Royal Enfield, Segway Powersports, Peugeot Motocycles, Torrot and Rieju.

Chinese motorcycle brands have rapidly expanded their presence in Australia over the past few years, with CFMOTO becoming one of the biggest success stories.

The company has grown its local range across motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs and SSVs, while also building a reputation for offering premium technology at lower price points.

Its supersport and adventure motorcycle range has become particularly competitive. The CFMOTO 675SR-R is priced from $11,790 ride-away, while the highly sought-after CFMOTO 450MT starts from $9,990 ride-away.

ZXMOTO is definitely a brand to watch closely when they arrive later this year and potential buyers can stay up to date by registering their interest on UMI’s website.
