A teenager has been taken into custody and is assisting police with their inquiries, following an alleged home invasion in a Gold Coast suburb.
Queensland Police allege a man, 38, and woman, 46, were woken by their dogs at their Carrara home and observed a light coming from their lounge room.
“The male victim has then confronted an unknown man in the lounge room,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“An altercation has occurred, and the male victim received wounds to his torso, right shoulder and a cut to his face. The female victim also suffered an injury to the chest.”
It is alleged the unknown man fled the scene.
The 38-year-old remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, whole the woman suffered an injury to her chest.
She was treated for her injuries and discharged.
In a further update on Tuesday evening, police said an 18-year-old from Carrara had been taken into custody and was assisting police with inquiries.
Officers were probing whether the alleged invasion and stabbing was linked to a similar alleged armed robbery earlier the same morning.
It is alleged a man was meeting an individual to sell four luxury watches in the neighbouring suburb of Nerang.
The offender allegedly produced a knife, demanded the watches, and fled in a dark-coloured SUV.
Witnesses at the Carrara stabbing also reported seeing a dark-coloured SUV speeding away from the scene.
The attacker is suspected to have acted alone, according to detective inspector Mark Mooney.
Residents have been advised against confronting intruders, noting that several recent injuries occurred during such confrontations.
“My advice is just to leave them alone; do not confront them … property is not worth your life,” Mr Mooney said.
Police are urging anyone with information, dashcam or CCTV footage to contact them.
