Brian Stokes Mitchell reflects on people’s love for ‘Through Heaven’s Eyes’ in ‘The Prince of Egypt’

Brian Stokes Mitchell recently got candid and opened up about fans’ love for The Prince of Egypt after almost 30 years.

For those unaware, the 68-year-old American actor and singer lent his voice to Jethro in the 1998 American musical drama film, an animated retelling of the biblical Book of Exodus. He also sang the movie’s soundtrack, Through Heaven’s Eyes, which tugged at the heartstrings of people, and they still mention the song while meeting with Mitchell.

The Feeling Good crooner showed up at the opening night of Broadway’s Joe Turner’s Come and Gone in April, where he spoke to PEOPLE magazine about the love he receives from people “all the time” for his work in The Prince of Egypt.

Voicing his thoughts, he said, “As a matter of fact, when they tested that movie originally, they said that song was the one that everybody responded to as well.”

“So, I was really happy about that, and I’m happy that it’s still going and people still love the song,” Mitchell admitted.

Notably, The Prince of Egypt depicts the journey of Moses in the voice of Val Kilmer, while other prominent celebrities who lent their voices were Martin Short, Steve Martin, Sandra Bullock, Ralph Fiennes, Patrick Stewart, Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helen Mirren, and Danny Glover.

It is pertinent to mention The Prince of Egypt secured an Oscar in the Best Original Song category for When You Believe.
