Nikita Tszyu has sent a warning to the boxing world with a dominant stoppage victory over Oscar Diaz in Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Tszyu was clearly a class above Diaz but the Spaniard showed a granite chin to last six rounds against ‘The Butcher’, who moved to a 12-0 record.

Tszyu vs Diaz | Wednesday 6 May from 7pm AEST | Nikita Tszyu continues his rise in boxing as he takes on Spain’s undefeated Oscar Diaz. | Order Now with Main Event on Kayo Sports.

There was controversy late in the fight when Diaz took a knee and Tszyu landed a couple of punches to his opponent’s head while he was defenceless, sparking a furious reaction from Diaz’s corner.

The round finished but Diaz’s camp threw in the towel and Tszyu claimed the most impressive win of his career so far and his first against an international opponent.

His promoter George Rose spoke afterwards with a sense of urgency about getting more rounds and fights under the 28-year-old’s belt so he can be fighting for a world title soon.

Earlier, there was drama when Anthony Mundine’s son Rahim ‘CJ’ Mundine was awarded a decision victory on the scorecards when he was outclassed in his fight, prompting loud boos from the crowd.

The Tszyu family remains undefeated in Newcastle but Tim Tszyu was not ringisde amid reports of a falling out between the brothers.
