The Kembla Grange training partnership of Mitchell Beer and George Carpenter are looking set to rely on one race in the shape of the Kooringal Stud Murrumbidgee Cup (1800m) in order to enjoy success leading into the Wagga Cup carnival.

Form galloper Cosmic Lad will line up in the event alongside stablemate Brazil with the pair both set to perform well.

Formerly trained by Joseph Pride, Cosmic Lad was a last-start winner at Newcastle when hitting the line well.

“He’s a horse that has been racing in great form and this race looks a nice one to push forward towards a Wagga Cup,” said Beer.

“His fourth at Kembla Grange before that was good and his first two runs for the stable were also good.

“If he can maintain that form then he’ll be very hard to hold out.”

As for Brazil, Beer said the galloper is on an upward spiral and shouldn’t be underestimated.

“He won well at Albury two starts ago and was only narrowly beaten when second at Wyong at his latest start,” Beer said.

“The apprentice claim will help and he’s heading in the right direction.”

Local trainer Wayne Carroll looks set to play a strong hand with a couple of leading chances going around in races two and eight.

Racing returns to Wagga on Sunday.

Carroll will saddle up Shezrushin in the Finance Tycoon At Kooringal Country Boosted Showcase Maiden Plate (1000m) with Coriah Keatings to ride.

Shezrushin is a three-year-old filly on debut that won her latest trial on the Riverside track at Wagga.

The trainer also has Elastane Miss in the Sandbar Queen Of The South Prelude Benchmark 58 Handicap (1300m) with Brittany Button taking the ride.

Elastane Miss has had eight starts and has one win and six minor placings to her name.

She ran second at this track two starts ago and then finished third here last time out when beaten a tick over three lengths.

Elastane Miss has since had a trial and finished third behind Rumours Abound on the Riverside track and an improved showing is on the cards, despite the big weight.
