‘Beef’ creator gets honest about stories behind wild scenes in Season 2
‘Beef’ creator gets candid about Season 2 scenes inspired by real-life incidents

In Beef Season 2, there are plots that are inspired by real-life incidents. Writer/director Lee Sung Jin offers a glimpse into these shocking turns in the new season.

“First and foremost, I can only write what I know,” the Emmy-winning director tells People, as he spills on drama, shouting matches, and toxic clashes in Season 2.

An example of this is country club staffers Ashley (Cailee Spaeny), who is suffering from a medical condition, and Austin (Charles Melton).

The young couple, out of concern, tries to return a lost wallet to their boss, Josh (Oscar Isaac).

But he was having a domestic fight with his wife, Lindsay (Carey Mulligan).

Sensing an opportunity, the couple secretly films the heated exchanges and uses them to obtain favours, for example, health insurance.

Part of this scenario Jin says he witnessed in real life.

However, the creator explains, when he asked different people for reactions to the story, he received mixed reactions.

“It was when younger people reacted like Ashley and Austin. Whereas my similarly aged or older peers were like, ‘It’s a fight. I mean, who among us [hasn’t]? ’”

By adding the theme of class, Jin says it helped the story to be “honest about younger love versus older love in 2026”.

“That affects every interaction,” he shares, adding, “It’s not getting better; it’s getting worse.”

Beef is streaming on Netflix.
