Many Australians will freeze through chilly nights and frosty mornings across the weekend, with Western Australia spared.
While West Australians bask in warm and sunny conditions, temperatures across the rest of the nation are expected to drop to near-freezing before turning to mild and pleasant days for most of the weekend, Weatherzone reported.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Christie Johnson said southerly winds could push showers across the southern coast.
The weather bureau predicts south-westerly winds on the east coast will keep showers offshore, but south-easterly winds are expected to bring showers to Queensland’s north tropical coast and Gulf of Carpentaria.
Thunderstorms are also possible across Queensland’s northwest coast and northeastern parts of the Top End.
Brisbane will be mostly sunny with showers possible in coastal areas in the evening, reaching a high of 25C.
Apart from the NSW north coast and western parts of the state, conditions will be sunny across NSW, but boaters, swimmers and rock fishers are warned there is a hazardous surf warning in place for Sydney and the Hunter coasts.
Authorities are urging people to stay out of the water and avoid walking near surf areas.
“Large and powerful southerly waves will make conditions hazardous for activities such as swimming and rock fishing,” Ms Johnson said.
Western parts of Victoria will be cloudy with a few light showers possible, Melbourne will reach a top of 16C.
Conditions will be slightly warmer across Tasmania with possible showers in the west and southern parts of the state seeing Hobart reach a top of 18C.
South Australia will be hit by southerly winds pushing cloud and showers into southern parts of the state, 19C is forecast for Adelaide.
Western Australia will be very sunny, except for the Eucla region which could receive a few showers. Perth is expected to reach a warm 24C.
A south-easterly wind will cool conditions in Darwin, which is forecast to reach a balmy 34C.
Similar conditions are expected across the nation on Mother’s Day, but with a higher chance of showers along the east coast.
