Liberal frontbencher Andrew Hastie has dismissed fears One Nation could electorally wipe out the party, after polling showed the far-right party could secure as many as 59 seats were a federal election to be held in May.

Research from Redbridge Group and Accent Research published over the weekend found One Nation could win between 46 and 59 seats, while 37 Liberals and Nationals MPs would be unseated in the scenario.

It included Mr Hastie having a 100 per cent chance of losing his Western Australian seat of Canning.

On Tuesday, the ex-SAS soldier was asked by Sky News if he feared the polling results could come to fruition at the next election.

“I don’t live in fear. My mission is clear: it’s to defeat Labor,” he said.

“One Nation – their mission is less clear. Pauline Hanson came out on the weekend and said she’s targeting Canning.

“Well, if she wants to defeat Labor, I’m not sure why she’d be targeting people like me on the centre-right.

“So, we crack on. Two years is a long time so I’m going to be working very hard with my colleagues to win government.”

He described representing Canning as “an absolute privilege” and said he would seek re-election, before adding: “Anyone can run for that seat.”

“Polls are good and they keep you sharp, but in the end, I’ve served my community for more than 10 years,” Mr Hastie said.

“I live there; it’s my home. My children go to school there; I have friends there.”

One Nation has experienced a surge in popularity as disaffected conservative voters turn away from the embattled Coalition.

Earlier this month, the far-right party won its first federal contest in Farrer, elevating David Farley to the House of Representatives and giving the minor party two MPs in the lower house.

Former deputy prime minister became the party’s first lower house MP when he defected from the Nationals in late 2025.
