Alan Jones’ butler of 18 years says he “never” witnessed the former radio kingpin behaving inappropriately, a court has been told.
The former 2GB host has denied that he indecently assaulted, groped and inappropriately touched nine alleged victims between 2003 and 2020.
He has pleaded not guilty to 27 charges – 25 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching.
The Local Court hearing before Judge Glenn Walsh is scheduled to begin on August 3, and is anticipated to run for four months.
The 84-year-old’s solicitor Bryan Wrench said on Tuesday Mr Jones’ butler said in a recent statement that he “never” witnessed any inappropriate behaviour in his 18 years working for the ex-shock jock radio host.
“It says he … never witnessed any behaviour that was inappropriate to another person,” Mr Wrench told the Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.
“That’s quite significant.”
Mr Wrench told the court he had received the statement in the last few days.
It is alleged Mr Jones’ offending occurred in Sydney, Fitzroy Falls, Kiama, Mittagong, Tamworth and at his work premises and home.
The court has previously been told that more than 100 witnesses could be called during what is expected to be a marathon trial, however, that number could be whittled down.
Following his first court appearance in December 2024, Mr Jones strongly denied the allegations.
“I have never indecently assaulted these people,” he said at the time.
“The law assumes I am not guilty, and I am not guilty.
“I am emphatic that I’ll be defending every charge before a jury in due course.”
