GWS star Stephen Coniglio was left dazed and confused after copping an errant shin to the face on Sunday.

The incident unfolded during the second quarter of the Giants’ clash against Richmond from Barossa Park.

Coniglio was attempting to smother a kick from Tigers youngster Sam Banks when things went awry.

As Banks wheeled to snap the ball across his body, Coniglio came flying in but marginally mistimed his leap.

Instead of collecting the ball, Coniglio’s head collided flush with Banks’ shin leaving the Giants star in all sorts on the turf.

He was eventually helped from the ground before undergoing and failing a HIA test during the halftime break.

Coniglio is now in the concussion protocols meaning he will miss next round’s Sydney derby against the Swans.

Despite losing the star midfielder, the Giants rolled and put the brakes on their early-season funk with a much-needed 56-point win.

The 20.11 (131) to 11.9 (75) result snapped the Giants’ three-game losing streak and ensured the Tigers remain the only winless team as their worst start to a season since 2010 continues.

They’re now riding a 10-game losing streak – their second in three years – and have lost 45 of their past 52 matches.

The victory was further soured for the Giants with the loss of key forward Aaron Cadman who will also miss the Sydney derby after being kneed in the face by Richmond’s Noah Balta in a marking contest in the last quarter and failing his concussion test.

It was a sour end for Cadman who made a triumphant return in his first game of 2026 with four goals.

GWS captain Toby Greene could also face some MRO scrutiny for a shepherd on Maurice Rioli in the third quarter, which appeared to get the Tiger on the chin and floored him, leaving him momentarily stunned and grabbing his mouth.

The Giants face a short turn around as they will lock horns with the Swans next Friday night at the SCG while the Tigers will hope to snap their losing streak when they take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
