St Kilda youngster Alix Tauru has been hit with a suspension after punching an opponent at the end of a VFL game against Sandringham Zebras.

The former No.10 draft pick was seen hitting his rival Ben Stephenson while the pair laid on the ground.

The siren had already sounded to signal the end of the game and Tauru has since been given a offered a three-game ban.

However he can accept a two-game suspension with an early guilty plea.

If he also pleads guilty to a bump earlier in the game he will avoid a one-match suspension and instead pay a fine of $500.

The incident sparked a mass brawl between the two teams, and one umpire had the perfect view on the agitator.

Tauru was promptly reported for his actions and he could now face a sanction by the league.

And it is not the first time Tauru has got in hot water in his short career.

Last year he was hit with a four-match suspension for rough conduct after a collision with Brisbane Lions VFL player Curtis McCarthy.

He was judged to have caught McCarthy high with an elbow, leaving him concussed.

Tauru, 19, could now be sidelined again, prolonging his bid to get back to playing in the AFL.

He had featured in the first five games of the season, before being managed for the clash against Adelaide in Round Six.

But he has struggled to stake his claim back in the side since and has been forced to play in the reserves, with the likes of Callum Wilkie, Anthony Caminiti and Jack Silvagni being preferred ahead of him.

Injury to Wilkie, who was unable to play the second half against Gold Coast on Saturday, could offer Tauru a way back in – but he will have to fix his discipline.
