AFL clubs have been left “astounded” after Collingwood coach Craig McRae fired some words at Swans star Brodie Grundy during their match on Friday.

Grundy brushed off the comments in his post-match interview but four clubs are reportedly surprised by McRae’s behaviour.

According to Channel 7’s Caroline Wilson, the AFL even missed the incident, which occurred when McRae returned a dead ball to the Swans ruckman.

“Well it might have been all respect, but it certainly wasn’t ‘g’day old mate’ and I don’t think Brodie Grundy was particularly impressed by what Craig McRae said,” Wilson said.

“Yes it was positive, but it was personal and it happened in game.

“Four other clubs I have spoken to today are quite astounded at McRae.

“I don’t believe it’s on and neither did the Sydney Swans…Nobody wants to say what was said but no one at the Swans is particularly impressed.

“The Swans haven’t complained but four clubs are really surprised at what McRae is doing.

“People I spoke to at the AFL, some of them weren’t even aware of the incident which amazes me.”

McRae’s antics are unlikely to get him into hot water but he is developing a bit of a reputation on the touchline.

Against Hawthorn earlier this month he committed a cynical act of time-wasting when he called for the ball from a fan before turning his back as it was thrown.

Like Grundy, he played down the incident and confirmed nothing negative was said to the Swans man.

“I’d love to be able to share but I can’t share exactly what I said to him.

“It was all respect, trust me. I’ve got great respect for what he’s doing, and nothing untoward [was said].”
